HTML from SGML to HTML 5.0

Evolution of HTML

We are living in the age of internet where everyone can connect to others in a matter of seconds. We are equipped with high end gadgets like laptop, tablet and smartphones. They help us in performing our many tasks in just a click of a button. These tools have made our lifestyle fast and we can perform numerous roles in a limited number of time. Now, one of the basic tools for making a page or website in the internet is HTML. This program has come a long way and developed accordingly over the years since its inception in 1991, when it was known as SGML. Here we will discuss the evolutionary steps that were taken to develop HTML 5 from its original avatar SGML over the span of 22 years.

So, here is the chart of development of the web design program.

image of web desiging courses in pune at VEDASGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language)
The HTML markup invented by Berners-Lee had a significant grounding in SGML (Standard Generalized Mark-Up), that was an internationally agreed upon method for marking text up into structural units (paragraphs, headings, lists, etc.) in the year 1991. The primary idea of using a markup was that the language was independent of the formatter. SGML made use of pair tags such as the opening and closing tags:. Other elements of SGML that he used were the paragraph, heading, and both ordered and unordered lists amongst others. It did not include hypertext links with anchor elements which were purely Berners-Lee’s invention along with the www.sitename.name syntax for addressing sites on the Internet.

HTML 2.0 (Hyper Text Markup Language)
The next version of HTML was available form 1994. It included features with all the browsers available in the time like Cello, Arena, Lynx, tkWWW and Mosaic. HTML 2.0 set a benchmark for web standards for the future. Over the years, new competing Internet-Draft, “HTML+ (Hypertext Markup Format)”, from late 1993, suggested standardizing already-implemented features like tables and fill-out forms.

After the HTML and HTML+ drafts expired in early 1994, the IETF created an HTML Working Group, which in 1995 completed “HTML 2.0”, the first HTML specification intended to be treated as a standard against which future implementations should be based.

HTML 3.2
HTML 3.2 was published through the W3C to provide standards for different web browsers. It was the first version developed and standardized exclusively by the W3C, as the IETF had closed its HTML Working Group in September 1996.Initially code-named Wilbur, HTML 3.2 dropped math formulas entirely, reconciled overlap among various proprietary extensions and adopted most of Netscape’s visual markup tags. Netscape’s blink element and Microsoft’s marquee element were omitted due to a mutual agreement between the two companies. A markup for mathematical formulas similar to that in HTML was not standardized until 14 months later in MathML.

HTML 4.0 HTML with XML and AJAX
Cougar is the code name used for HTML 4.0, published as a recommendation in 1997 and finally approved some to time later. The version saw the introduction of a new tool to ease out the design process of web in the form of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

HTML 4.0 adopted many browser-specific element types and attributes, but at the same time sought to phase out Netscape’s visual markup features by marking them as deprecated in favor of style sheets. HTML 4 is an SGML application conforming to ISO 8879 norms.

HTML with XML and AJAX
HTML add with XML to become XHTML, picking up the rigid code structure of XML to enforce cleaner code but had some problems handling backward compatibility. Though XML is considered a standard, still browsers forgive this and allow sloppy code, uppercase code and improper closed tags. This makes rendering difficult to attain wide adoption of stricker XML code.

AJAX which originates in an iframe technique of internet explorer was formally launched in 2005. This development made web pages to quickly react and update dynamic page content for desktop applications as seen in Rackspace Email and Gmail, as well as social media sites like Digg, Facebook and Twitter. These were further made compatible to online Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress and Joomla.

HTML 5.0
XHTML 5 was an update to XHTML 1.x and defined alongside HTML5 in the HTML5 draft. To provide rich web applications, the Web Hypertext Application Technology (WHAT) Work Group forms in 2004 with members of Apple, Mozilla and Opera published the first HTML 5 draft in the year 2008. HTML 5 experienced instant popularity as advanced web browsers like Firefox and Internet Explorer supported its features. It was made in an attempt to define a single markup language that can be written in either HTML or XHTML syntax. It includes detailed processing models to encourage more interoperable implementations; it extends, improves and rationalizes the markup available for documents, and introduces markup and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for complex web applications. For same purpose, HTML5 is also a potential candidate for cross-platform mobile applications. Many features of HTML5 have been built with the consideration of being able to run on low-powered devices image of internet digital marketing courses in pune at VEDAsuch as smartphones and tablets.

After having learned about the history of HTML which explained how the internet evolved over the years from helping communications between the army to connecting the entire globe as a single unit. You may be thinking how to learn about the tools oh HTML. To make a simple website using basic HTML language, you need to learn HTML basics first. HTML is considered as the best and easiest way for web development.

animation film making process

Nuke We love to see animated feature films on the big screen and enjoy the activities of our favorite cartoon characters but have you ever wondered how designers create animated films? An animation film making process is very complicated and quite challenging. Different types of professionals work in the entire film making process to bring life to artistic imaginations. From drawing sketches and creating 3D models to texturing and rigging, an array of professionals handles the different departments.

Different film production companies hire hundreds of 2D and 3D animators every year. The career in animation film making is extremely bright and anyone with a passion for creativity and a brain full of imagination can join this business. However, you must join a proper institute like Veda to sharpen your skills and then enter the professional world of visual wizards.

Let me share with you the animation film making process step-by-step along with the career possibilities in these areas.

Pre Production

Story boarding – It helps in the development of the storyline. Story boarding looks like a cartoon strip describing the film scene by scene. Designers often add text notes with story board to suggest camera movements, pause, zoom etc. so that animators can work accordingly. In short, you can call it the guidebook of any animation film. People with degree in drawing can work as story board artists.

Layouts – Once the storyboard is finalized, it goes to the layout department and artists work with the director to conceptualize the costumes and locations. Then they start creating scenes showing the position of characters in each scene.

Model sheets – It is the group of pictures that show the different postures of a character of a film. It highlights the characteristic details of the entire cast. Once model sheets are created in 2D, it is sent to the modeling department so that during the production phase, they can build the 3D models properly.

Animatics – To give the idea of motion and timing, the pre-visualization team within the VFX department designs simplified mock ups. These mock ups are called animatics. It helps the director plan the special effect sequences in the film.

Maya Production

Modeling – Modelers are generally divided into two different teams. While one team develops characters in 3D, the other creates the architectural background. They create things like weapons and buildings. They work closely with technical animators and add skeleton and skin to the models.

Texturing – Texturing artists add shades and textures to the scenes of the film and they transform the 3D models into life-like creatures.

Lighting – Lights set the mood and believability of a scene and lighting experts decide how to bring together all the elements created by the artists. They organize effects, camera movements and textures to make the entire scene more believable.

Rigging – It refers to the process of adding bones to the characters and defining their muscle movements. To be precise, rigging experts add flexibility to a lifeless model and make it act like a human being.

Animation – Animators add soul to the 3D objects. They make them do all the actions depicted in the story board and create the film frame by frame. The effects team also works with the animators to add visual effects in films. They add elements like smoke, dust and water to the scenes as per the requirement of the story. Our visual effects course is perfect for those who want to have a bright career in animation.

Post production

Compositing – The composition team brings together all the elements created by the previous teams to create the final rendered image and make it ready for the film.

Sound editing – This department manages the audio mixing and lip syncing and also adds the necessary sound effects for the movie. We offer audio editing course at Veda to help our students learn the process of sound editing.

Video editing – Video editors organize the shots one by one to maintain cinematic flow and remove unwanted clips to maintain the flow in storyline. Veda’s video editing courses can help you learn this process with great detail and you can join an animation film production company as a video editing expert.

2D & 3D AnimationMore or less, the 2D and 3D animation film production process is the same. Though there are no 3D modeling in 2D animated films, rest of the process is the same considering the same core rules are followed in both cases. At Veda, we offer both 2D and 3D animation courses to our students and help them enter the world of animation.

Come join us today and shape up your future.

Motus technology

We the animators know how tedious process is to animate or draw out something & how time consuming is the same. But this year, Motus Digital has come up with a system that will rescue the life of an animator, making his work little bit simple, easy but more instant. Being shown off at an event, is a system by Motus Digital that animates actors in real time, cutting the process from months of effort down to hours & with instant action & more interactive.

Check out a small demo which was shown in the event:

2D-AnimationThis real-time system has the potential to create some interesting new uses for animation. How for a change to have live, and even improvised cartoons which can be made in real time & can interact with us rather than just drawing an animation to match a recorded audio track. This system sure is going to rock the animation world & surely can transform the animation world.

Check out this cool video to see how it is done:

The process of animating the actor behind the character may be instantaneous, but it still requires a lengthy preparation to attach all the required sensors to the actor’s skin. The sensors are the same kind used in traditional motion capture, and they allow the animated character to have the same points of articulation and expression as the actor.

This technology will soon be licensed by companies to make new, funny, more interactive characters. Imagine a live interview with the characters from the next big animated movie, or the chance to talk to your favorite characters at a theme park. This could be an interesting new use for motion capture technology, or maybe it’s just a passing fad.

What do you think? Is real-time animation going to rock the Animation World?
