Top Graphic Designing Terms used by every serious Graphic Designer

Well, you are creative and have decided to make career as a Graphic Designer then the very first step is to get familiar with few terms. These are the commonly used terms which are used very casually everyday by the designers.
So the question is how such slangs are useful in professional career? Answer is simple. It will give you good reputation or it will enhance your reputation in the designing industry. These terms are very much useful and very commonly used by the designers.

  1. CMYK 
    CMYK is a subtractive colour model useful for color printing. CMYK is referred to four different colors useful for printing. These colors are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key ( black)

  2. RGB Color Model 
    RGB is a additive color model. Red, Green and Blue are the colors in it. RGB colors are used to display images in various electronic systems.
  3. Kerning 
    It is a method of adjusting spaces between characters. It adjusts spaces between individual letter types. It is useful in creating proportional and appropriate typography
  4. Trim 
    It is the term used to explain the exact final dimension of the completed task or the project.
  5. Bleed
    It is the area when product will be cut. It is the area which goes outside the border of the sheet where it is to be trimmed.
  6. Pica
    Pica is the commonly term used majorly in Adobe Indesign and other designing software for the measurement of sizes and space.
  7. Comp
    It is a rough layout of the planned design which is discussed with the client. This designing can be on the paper or can be presented digitally.
  8. Serif
    It is a stroke at the end of main vertical and horizontal strokes of the some letters. Times New Roman, Georgia and Garamond are some of the serif fonts.
  9. Sans Serif
    Like serif fonts sans serif fonts does not have extending characteristics. These fonts are with less line width deviation than serif fonts. Helvetica, Avant Garde, Arial are some of the Sans Serif fonts.
  10. Lorem ipsum
    Lorem Ipsum is the most commonly used dummy text which has no significant meaning but it gives the look and feel of the real text.
