Here is a list of the best modern animators from our country, who have shaped the present Indian animation industry.


Ram Mohan: He is regarded as the “Godfather of Indian animation”. He is credited to have one of the earliest exponents of animation content in India when the market was in its nascent stage. He worked in films like “Ek Anek Aur Ekta”, along with that many mainstream hindi films had animation sequences done by the master like “Pati Patni aur Woh”, “Shatranj Ke Khiladi”, “Bhuvan Shome”,etc.


Dhimant Vyas: Known as the “king of clay”, he is credited to bring the clay animation art in to the Indian mainstream industry. Being an alumni of National Institute of Design, he worked in many projects at Aardaman Studios. He has contributed to films like “Taare Zameen Par” and has done commercials for BBC, UNICEF, Zee TV, MTV, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and more.


Gayatri Rao: “The queen of Indian animation”, she had done her internship at Walt Disney Studios. She developed a new medium in animation used as alternative learning methods. She has made pioneering films as “Raju & I” and “Calls Of Animals” along with that, she has been part of numerous commercials and short film projects throughout her career.


Kireet Khurana: Called as “The Indian animation hero”, he directed India’s first live-action and 3D animation film “Toonpor Kar Superhero”. An alumni of Sheridan College, he also won national award for his film “Mahagiri”. He has also worked in many short films like “Chotta Birbal”, “Shaadi Ka Laddoo” and “Sand Castle”, etc.


Rajiv Chilaka: “The creator of Choota Bheem”, he founded the famous Green Gold Animation Studios and has studied animation from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He personally was part of animation and various projects and single handedly spearheaded the studio in becoming one of the most famous animation studios in Asian subcontinent.
